This cool epiphytic tropical cactus is a great addition to any indoor plant collection. Native to tropical and subtropical regions of Central and South America and the Caribbean, this plant is commonly known as the Orchid Cactus due to the vibrant, showy flowers it can produce. Its bright green stems have a slightly jagged edge and tiny spines, and their tips will redden with the more light it receives. The stems are long and flat, and due to their floppy nature, the plant looks best situated on a shelf, plant stand or hanging basket.

  • Position the Epiphyllum 'Red Tip' somewhere nice and bright but without being in too much direct sun as this can scorch the leaves. They are also tolerant of light shade but may not develop the red tips on their stems.

These tropical cacti are fairly drought tolerant and store water in their fleshy leaves but they do need more frequent watering than desert cacti. Water more frequently in the warmer months, and always allow the top half of the soil to dry out between waterings.

When watering, thoroughly soak the soil until water drains out of the bottom of the pot. Discard any excess water in the saucer or decorative pot to prevent waterlogged roots.

It's important to adjust your watering routine based on the time of year and specific environmental conditions like humidity and temperature.
